Something Neutral Lurks

"What happened? I thought you could control The Boy! Why didn't he do as you encouraged him too?"

Zehna snorted in a lady like manner, as she poured her sister a cup of tea. "My dear sister, The Boy, as you call him is a bloody independent minded little shit. He has too much of his mother in him. His brother and sisters are proving to be easier to control than him."

Deelyn raised a delicate eyebrow, as she raised her cup of tea to her lips, "You are his mother, Zehna. We worked very hard to arrange that seduction of Nazeth away from that Witch. Now encourage him some more in his crusade, so that he and Ninrath destroy each other."

Zehna smiled, "Don't worry my dear, things will balance out in the correct manner."

***********

Ninrath kicked the door in, storming into the chambers. "Rovis, you pathetic fool, where is she?"

Rovis sat up from the couch he was lounging on, "Milord?"

Ninrath loomed over the demi god, "The Girl. The one I told you to kill. Where is she? Are you deaf, as well as being a sadistically pathetic bastard?"

Rovis glanced towards the corner of the room, where a young girl was chained to a wall.

Ninrath sighed, shaking his head, "Next time I order you to do something, do it or I will do something to you." He leaned towards Rovis face, "Are we clear on that? Lucky for you I need her for something."

Rovis flinched, as Ninrath stalked over to the girl. Her eyes went wide in fear, as he drew his sword. She fell backwards, closing her eyes, fearing the worst.

Ninrath brought his sword down, snapping the chain, "Come with me girl."

Rovis shuddered, sighing in relief, as the old God lead the girl from the room.

***********

Saidryn blinked, as there was a soft knock on his door. He opened it to see a drow woman standing there. "Can I help you?"

The girl bobbed a quick curtsey, "My Master, Lord Ninrath, invites you to his chambers for a visit."

Saidryn raised an eyebrow, "Come again?"

"My Master is going a trip to the Mortal Plain and wishes you to visit him before he leaves."

Saidryn closed his eyes for a second, wincing a he felt a headache coming on. He opened his eyes wide in surprise, "I see... Wait he's going where?!"

The girl nodded her head, amused, "The Mortal Plain, Milord."

"Oh like Hell He is! Take me to your Master," Saidryn demanded.

"Of course, milord," the girl responded.

**************

Saidryn glared at the old god, as he directed his slaves in packing his gear for his trip, "Ah Saidryn old boy, just in time. Jyarra bring Saidryn a drink."

Saidryn blinked in surprise, as the young girl brought him a drink, startled that he recognized her. The last time he had seen her, she had been tied to Ninrath's bed. "I thought you were going to kill her?" he blurted out.

Ninrath shrugged, sitting down in his chair, "I changed my mind. I have better uses for her."

Saidryn's eyes narrowed as the drow girl that guided him, knelt on the floor at Ninrath's feet, resting her head on his knee. "Uses? What kind of uses?"

Ninrath gently started stroking the hair of the young woman leaning against him. He waved at the young girl handing Saidryn his drink, "Jyarra, this is Saidryn. Saidryn this is Jyarra. She is yours to do with as you please."

"Excuse me?" Saidryn exclaimed, his voice going up an octave.

"I decided to indulge in a whim and am releasing her from her role as a Sacrifice. You expressed a concern about her dying for her father's ambition. Well now it's your choice on what happens to her." Ninrath stood up from his chair, "Now while it has been fun, I have Chaos to create." He waved his hand at Saidryn, "Shoo."

Once again, Saidryn found himself compelled to leave the old god's chambers. After the door closed behind him, he looked down at the mortal girl beside him and sighed, "Come with me and I will see about getting you home."

************

Saidryn got back to his chambers to find Lady Zehna waiting for him. "Now what?" he muttered softly to himself.

Zehna glanced at the girl next to her son briefly, then ignored her, concentrating on Saidryn. "What are you going to do about Shallan?"

"And hello to you too, Mother." He waved the girl through the door, "Would you care for a drink?"

Zehna smiled at her son's attempt at diverting her, "Nice try my dear. My question still stands. What are you going to do about Shallan?"

Saidryn walked over to the cabinet where he kept his drinks, pouring one for himself as well as for Jyarra. "I wasn't aware that anything had to be done in regards to the God of the Shadow Moon, Mother."

Zehna took a seat, "he has taken up residence on the Mortal Plain, Saidryn, that is not permitted."

Jyarra brought her drink over to Zehna out of respect and courtesy. "Why thank you, my dear," Zehna took a sip of her drink, "Well?" looking at her son, eyebrow raised.

Saidryn sighed, closing his eyes, as he felt that headache coming on again, "What do you want me to do, Mother?"

Zehna put her glass down, "Bring him back to the Celestial Plain, where he belongs."

Jyarra quietly stood behind Saidryn's chair and started rubbing his shoulders.

Saidryn rolled his head back to stare at the little mortal, "And what do you think you are doing?"

Jyarra blushed, "Pleasing you, Master."

"Saidryn," he told her.

She smiled, "Master Saidryn."

"No," he corrected her. "Just Saidryn. You are not a slave. You are a guest in my home."

Jyarra blushed, "Oh!" She hesitantly smiled, "As you wish, Milord."

Saidryn shook his head, amused at the charm of the little mortal.

"Saidryn! Pay attention!" Zehna snapped. "You need to get Shallan Shalnar and bring him back! Gods should not be spending time on the Mortal Plain."

Saidryn glared at his mother, irritated by her presence, "I heard you the first time, Mother. Do you want me to bring back the other one too?"

"Other one?" she snapped.

"Ninrath. He plans on spending time on the Mortal Plain," Saidryn explained.

"Of course," Zehna snapped again. She slowly stood up, "You are the Gate Keeper. You control the god prison. You need to use that power to your advantage." She headed towards the door to his chambers. "you have a job to do, Saidryn. Do it."

Saidryn watched his mother leave, " You know, I am starting to dislike her."

"Are you going to do as she says, Milord?"

Saidryn looked at the little mortal girl, "Taking into account that you belong to the Chaos Bastard, let me ask you a fair question. Should I do as she says?"

Jyarra walked around the chair to kneel in front of Saidryn, "Milord, I do not belong to Lord Ninrath. I belong to you. He gave me to you."

"To corrupt me," he said bluntly.

She shook her head, "To save me."

Saidryn raised an eyebrow, "From?"

"My father's ambition of course. I was the sacrifice my father offered for Power. He wished to remove our King. And I was the means to get Lord Ninrath's attention."

"What kind of attention?" Saidryn asked, now curious. "I mean, you were tied up like a turkey on a spit."

Jyarra laughed, amused, "Lord Ninrath likes to play and I was willing to oblige him."

Saidryn sat up straighter, "Play? Did he..."

Jyarra shook her head, "No, he didn't. And he took me away from Lord Rovis before anything happened."

Saidryn coughed, a little embarrassed. "Why not? I mean... well," he blushed, then looked away as he saw the mortal girl's eyes light up in amusement.

"Lord Ninrath told me when I was presented to him, the he would not give my father that much satisfaction."

"I see," Saidryn stared at the girl. "And if he had," still a bit embarrassed.

Jyarra shrugged, "I wouldn't of minded it."

"Oh. He said you were supposed to die."

Jyarra shrugged again, "Everyone dies, Milord. That's why it's called the Mortal Plain. Even Gods die."

"Only at the hands of a God Slayer and I only know of two, the old bastard and myself."

Jyarra put her hand on Saidryn's knee, "You didn't like Lord Ninrath, do you?"

Saidryn snorted in contempt, "Of course not! He's Evil."

Jyarra looked down at her hand, "He spared my life, Milord. Would a being of evil do that?"

Saidryn didn't know what to say to that.
