Third Chapter of The Saga of Lady Merdressa
as written by
Ilvoren, Bard to Merdressa, Queen of the Lands of Cerdrinal, The Mysty Realm of the Elves.
She sat up in the bed,
taking a deep breath. All around her, the ladies moved around the bed chamber,
putting everything in order. She turned her head at the soft sound coming from
over by the window. She smiled softly at the enraptured gaze on her love’s face.
It was like he had no idea what to do now.
The dark man looked up, as he saw her moving out of the
corner of his eye. “You should rest, my dark beauty.”
“I did rest, my love.” she moved over slightly in the bed to
make room for him next to her. He sat down next to her, passing the child he was
holding to her. “She is beautiful, my darling just like her mother. They both
are.”
Merdressa smiled down at her daughter. “Yes they are.” She
pulled aside her robe so the child could feed. The new mother gazed down at her
daughter, fascinated by her appearance. The child had black hair like her
mother, and the black skin of her father. At the moment, her eyes were closed as
she contentedly nursed. But Merdressa knew that her eyes were the same color
amber as her mother’s.
Shallan nodded to one of the ladies, who brought him another
child. He looked down at this child. The little one he held was the exact
opposite of the child Merdressa was feeding now. This child had his mother’s
dusky skin and his father’s silver hair. He slept contentedly in his father’s
arms. The only thing he shared with his sister, was the amber eyes of his
mother. “Shallan, would you name them?”
The proud father smiled at his love, “Of course. She shall be known as Myshalla.
And she shall know her parents’ love for all her days. And he shall be called
Nairyck. He too shall know his parents’ love all of his days.”
One of the ladies, stepped forward and curtsied to the proud
couple. “Your Majesty, Honored One, Lord Lornal is here to visit you, the new
princess and the new prince.”
Merdressa shook her head slightly. “Of course send him in.”
The old elf respectfully walked into the Queen’s chambers,
making a bow to her lord and then to the queen herself. “Well my queen, it would
seem that you are now a proud mother, as well as Queen and Arch Mage. There are
two?” he asked, startled. May I see their highnesses , so I may know who I serve
in the future years of my life?”
“Of course Lornal, please meet our daughter, Myshalla.” The
queen held her daughter out to the old advisor to greet.
“Greetings, my princess. I look forward to serving you, as I
have served your mother." The little baby gurgled happily at the old elf.
Very gently, the old advisor tapped the baby on the nose. The baby gurgled
again. “The child truly has a sunny disposition, my queen. May she keep that all
her days.”
Shallan nodded down to his son. “And this is our son,
Nairyck, m’lord Lornal.”
Lornal’s smile became even broader as he looked at the young
prince. “He looks to be a fine young fellow. I look forward to serving him in
the future as well. If I may ask? Which came first, the princess or the prince?”
Merdressa sighed happily, “You will be happy to know that you
will serve another Queen, my friend.”
The old advisor nodded towards the baby in Merdressa’s arms.
“As it should be. We have always followed a Queen. Never a King. But it is well
to know that she has a brother to share life’s trials.”
“As opposed to a sister?” Merdressa chuckled softly.
“Lady Merla has her own trials, My Queen. And she has been
here for you. Siblings are a blessing, not the curse some people think they
are.” The old advisor leaned back in the chair he was sitting in.
